This race is also very weather friendly: the trails are all either paved or gravel trails with little potential for mud (in case of any rain before or during the race). Sat 02/25/2012 Patuxent River 10K Croom MD 10am Have a great time at QOC's 2nd Annual Patuxent River Trail 10K run, and help supporting orienteering nationally as well as conservation efforts at this fine park. The Course: A 10 km loop on the park’s natural surface trails and fields. The course is relatively flat but like anywhere else around here in late February it could be muddy, snowy or icy on race day. The course map will be posted ~1 month before the event date. The Awards: As if supporting the Park and getting freebies isn't enough? Well, there will be awards for the top 3 men and women overall and in each of the following 10 year age groups: 19 & under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70 & over. Manual timing will be used. Registration: Cost is $25 until February 1, 2011, then $30 to Feb. 22. Registration will be offered online through February 23rd with payment online or by mailing a check; race day registration ($35) will be offered on site if the race hasn’t already reached the maximum number of permitted participants. A commemorative race item is guaranteed for those whose registration is received by February 1st, and until we run out for all others (yes, you'll probably get one - but why not just register as soon as it opens and guarantee it?). Packet pick up will be held from 9am until 9:45am at the race arena. Please arrive early to ensure you aren’t rushed getting ready for the start. Directions: from the Capital Beltway (I-495), take Exit 11A, (Pennsylvania Ave), Route 4 east for 8 miles. Take Route 301 south for 1.7 miles. Turn left on Croom Station Road and continue for 1.6 miles. Turn left on Croom Road (Route 382) and proceed for 1.5 miles. Turn left on Croom Airport Road and continue for 2 miles. At park entrance, continue straight towards the Group Camp Area. Turn right into the parking area when you reach a large field on the right hand side of the road.

Sat 04/14/2012 Spin in the Woods McLean, VA (Scott's Run Nature Preserve 7400 Georgetown Pike) 9 a.m. Truly a difficult run, this cross country offers dirt trails once you make it to the top of a dirt hill so steep, you'll feel like you're climbing a wall. It's so much fun that you'll get to do it twice as a part of this two-loop course. If we're lucky, they'll be some obstacles on the course (fallen trees), too. The race is part of our low-key club race series and is free for MCRRC members, $10 for non-members 18 and over, and $5 for non-members under 18. Registration is race-day only starting an hour before the race.

Sat 04/21/2012 Western Pacific Marathon/Half Marathon/10K/5K Fremont, CA 7:30 am Used in the 1800s to transport gravel for the construction of the western section of the Transcontinental Railroad, the Western Pacific Trail now forms a part of this mostly-flat course where you can haul in a personal best! In addition to the marathon distance, half marathon, 10K and 5K races will also take place. All races begin and end at Quarry Lakes Recreational Area, with the 10K, half marathon and marathon races going out along the Alameda Creek Trail. Trails are primarily fire trail/gravel with short paved sections.

Named after the horse races that have been run in Siena Italy since the 16th century, our Palio di Siena event will be held on April 28, 2012 at beautiful Lake Fairfax Park in Reston, Virginia. The race will benefit Siena Academy, the Montessori parish school of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Great Falls, Virginia.
