In that time, their efforts have taken us from 6,788 acres of open space to over 100,000 acres of open space on and around the mountain! With distances suitable for everyone from those hitting the trail for the first time to experienced ultra-runners, the Diablo Trails Challenge was created to help celebrate and support these achievements. A portion of all entry fees will go to Save Mount Diablo to help them continue preserving open space and trails for all of us to enjoy.

Sun 03/28/2010 Lexington Half Marathon Lexington, KY 8:00 AM Lexington, known as the “Horse Capital of the World”, is located in the heart of Kentucky’s Bluegrass Region. This will be the first ever Half Marathon 13.1 running event held in the Lexington, KY when the Lexington Half Marathon launches with a course designed to showcase the area. The Lexington Half Marathon, along with its accompanying 5K (3.1 mile) and 1 Mile Fun Runs, will start and finish at the world renowned Fasig-Tipton on Newtown Pike just off of I-75. The scenic, rolling route will showcase the region’s famed horse farms and run through the famed Kentucky Horse Park, home of the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games. With the support of the City of Lexington, Lexington Convention & Visitors Bureau, Kentucky Horse Park and the State of Kentucky, initial founding sponsors include the Lexington Herald-Leader , WKYT-TV, Clear Channel Radio,and Fasig-Tipton. A part of the nationwide USRA Half Marathon Series (USRARaceSeries.com). Each USRA Half Marathon Series event lives up to is motto of “Where the Runner Comes First” and Lexington will be no exception. The 2-day event kicks off on Saturday, March 27 from 11am – 5pm with a Runner’s/Health & Fitness Expo . A “fun, festive atmosphere will greet all participants throughout the event welcoming all abilities and ages with walkers, strollers and head phones welcome with runners vying for the nearly 150 awards! All Lexington Half Marathon participants will receive a high-quality “tech” shirt with a quality medal presented to all finishers. Attractive race shirts will go to all 5K and Fun Run participants. There will also be a “Corporate Cup” division based upon company participation in three separate divisions by company size. Participants will be inspired by music throughout the course and a “Live Band” performing at the finish line party. At least 11 cities are already committed “USRA Half Marathon Series“ targeting mid-sized markets and organizers anticipate as many as 15 or more will make up the 2010 Tour. Pleasant Half Marathon Mount Pleasant, WI 8:00 AM Picturesque Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin is part of the Racine market located on Lake Michigan and is situated between Milwaukee and Chicago. Some 12 million people live within 75 miles of the Village of Mount Pleasant/Racine area, The area is home to many popular events hosted by Racine Convention & Visitors Bureau including the Racine Triaathon and EVP Beach Volleyball Tour and National Championships. The market is within reasonable distance to Iowa, Minnesota,Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Missouri, Nebraska and South Dakota. Sat 04/24/2010 National College Blue Ridge Marathon Roanoke, VA 7:30 am In celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the Blue Ridge Parkway, the inaugural Blue Ridge Marathon will be run on April 24, 2010. The building of the Blue Ridge Parkway was an amazing feat as anyone who completes this marathon will see. Local runners have crafted one of the most difficult and beautiful marathons on the east coast. The full marathon course includes 3,076 feet of total elevation gain and 6,140 feet of total elevation change. The uphill portions will test each runner?s strength and endurance while the equally challenging downhill sections are sure to weed out those who are unprepared. The breathtaking views and stunning Blue Ridge Mountain scenery are sure offer some reprieve to runners as they persevere to the finish line! Not only does the course include beautiful mountain scenery, it also offers an iconic START and FINISH in front of two well-known and historic locations in downtown Roanoke: The Taubman Museum of Art and the historic Hotel Roanoke.

This race has turned into a featured Vienna event with many in the community involved. Last year over 525 kids/adults participated in the event. The mission of this event is to provide a fun event, integrated with the elementary school physical education curriculum that encourages kids, teachers and adults to stay active and celebrates their achievements. But fitness and fun was not the only goal. Another goal is to raise money to support the educational enrichment programs of the Vienna Elementary School PTA. Last year funds were used to purchase instructional materials to benefit the learning of Vienna students and a portion of the funds were used to purchase additional projectors, SmartBoards, and technology (video cameras and digital cameras) for the new media center.
