SCOTT REIGNS SUPREME AT DCRRC INDOOR TRACK MEET

All-American hurdler Sascha Scott (Colorado College Class of ‘97) was undefeatable at every distance in the last of three 1998 winter indoor track meets conducted by DC Road Runners Club (DCRRC) and Potomac Valley Track Club (PVTC) at Arlington's Thomas Jefferson Community Center, Sunday, February 8.

Scott ran her best mile of the season, to win the women's mile in 5:31. A half hour later, she ran 63 for the 400-meter, the fastest woman's time of the day. Another half-hour later, she won again at 800 meters in 2:31; and finally, another half-hour later, she ran 29 seconds in the 200 meter. "I credit all the wonderful people I train with at the Georgetown University Track at the DCRRC workouts on Wednesday nights," said Scott after the race.

Warrick Yeager of Alexandria VA and Steve Pecinovsky of Fairfax Station VA both qualified for USA Track and Field Indoor National Championships February 28 in Atlanta GA. They finished the 3000-meter racewalk together in 12:33, beating the qualifying time of 12:35. Yeager, a U.S. Navy chief petty officer, won the "Commander-in-Chief's" trophy, beating Pecinovsky, a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force and Will Navaro, a West Point Army Academy cadet, who finished third. Yeager was the U.S. Navy's 1996 Athlete of the Year and Pecinovsky was the U.S. Air Force's 1990 Athlete of the Year.

More than 300 kids and 150 adults came from a dozen track clubs all over the East Coast, from as far away as New York and North Carolina. The great turnout came in part from a five-page spread about children's running in the Washington POST Weekend Section on Friday, February 6 and from George Banker's continuing coverage in the JOURNAL Newspapers.

The meet included feature racewalks of 800 meters for kids and 3000 meters for adults, followed by runs of 55 meters, one mile, 400 meters, 800 meters, 200 meters, and 3000 meters. The meets were directed by DCRRC and PVTC in co-operation with Arlington County Department of Parks, Recreation, and Community Resources and sponsored by Racquet and Jog, Runners World Magazine, American Direct Optek Sunglasses, and Balance Bars. Every finisher received a ribbon, courtesy of PVTC, and distance event winners received a unique Award Winner t-shirt, courtesy of Racquet and Jog, original design by Paul Wind.

Volunteers included Ted Baca, Tim Baker, Norm Brand, Fiona Branton, Sal Corrallo, Dante Ciolfi, Nancy Davis-Imhof, Dom Denio, Larry Dickerson, Kevin Dinan, Rolland Elliott, Darceann Ephraim, Fred Gedrich, Sharon Good, Arie Guttman, Terry Hamilton, John Haubert, Tammy Huck, Yonco Mermersky, Wanda Newcomb, Suzanne Noto, Nathan Omsburg, Robert Platt, Robert Premo, Dave Recco, Don Riggs, Felix Rogers, Tina Sborz, James Scarborough, Karen Wessinger, Paul Wind, Mil Wood, Pamela Wusthof, and meet director Jay Jacob Wind.
