John Spider Sillery pulled away from the crowd quickly, but Kenyan runner Hillary Kipchumba nearly caught him -- until the final hill.
Luis Gutierrez from Peru made the race even more international.
Amanda Stickel finished first among women.
The race is a part of the Maryland RRCA Grand Prix Series. The race is named in honor of Larry Noel, who was DCRRC Co-President in 1963 and directed our Greenbelt races for many years. His sons, Harry and Billy ran the race.
The race has been held the Sunday before Labor Day as a part of the Greenbelt Labor Day festival since 1957 (with only one year's absence.)
Race Director Ben Richter wishes to thank the many volunteers whose teamwork made the race possible. Joe Broderick facilitated the race with Greenbelt and USDA authorities. Elizabeth Eby served as volunteer coordinator. Tom Stone directed the 3K Fun Run. Father Scott Hurd of St. Hugh's Church helped us reach out to the community and greatly raised participation by Greenbelt runners and walkers. Matt Mantich of the Laurel Amateur Radio Club provided on-course communications and emergency response.
