Strap on those sneakers and jog, walk, or run to honor the memory of Linmarie Concepcion. Linmarie was a vibrant young woman who was afflicted with a rare form of cancer. She was a fierce competitor, but an even more fierce friend and family member. What better way to honor her, and others who have endured similar circumstances, than to gather together and run the Fighter 5K or the Power 10K in this year’s Race for Linmarie!

On May 16, 2015, over 300 runners were registered to participate in the inaugural Race for Linmarie’s 5k & 1 mile fun run at Lake Ridge Middle School in Woodbridge, VA. We want to thank all the participants and sponsors who made this event so successful and helped us establish The Linmarie Concepcion Memorial Endowed Scholarship at George Mason University! The Linmarie Concepcion Memorial Charity’s mission statement is To inspire, educate and aid the fight against cancer. The ongoing scholarship funded in Linmarie’s name is going to female rowers at GMU, fulfilling the “educate” piece of our mission. We are now moving on to aiding the fight against cancer by raising money for the LinmarieSTRONG Germ Cell Cancer Research Fund after partnering with University of Pennsylvania Abramson Cancer Center’s Hematology/Oncology Division in Philadelphia, PA. With this fund, the Division of Hematology/Oncology will be able to study chemotherapy resistant refractory germ cell tumors in order to develop cutting edge treatments that will bring the power of immunotherapy from the laboratory to the patient, giving families hope for survivorship. Please refer to our “CANCER Research” tab above for more information.

Schedule:

The races will begin at 8:00 AM and will start and finish on the Lake Ridge Middle School bus loop. The ChronoTrack chip on the back of the 5K bibs will produce accurate, official results and times for both the 5K and the 10K. To help the traffic flow, there will be small corrals signs based on your estimated split times. Please see the posters by the starting line and plan to start in that order. Your time will begin and end as you cross the start/finish.

An awards assembly will be conducted immediately following the races. Medals will be awarded to the top 3 overall male and female finishers and to the top male and female age group winners. Age groups are 14 and under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60+.

Throughout the morning, we will have fun for the whole family, including entertainment by DJ Jeremy Whitham, vendors, and raffle prizes! Be sure to bring cash for the raffle. Prizes will be drawn at the end of the event.
