Tidal Basin Presidential Fitness Runs
West Potomac Park, Washington DC
Sunday, July 3, 2011
  • Tidal Basin Run, a partner of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, hosted its fifth Presidential Fitness Runs of 2011 on July 3, the day before Independence Day.
  • Ted Poulos added another win to his life list.
  • Bob Weiner, who arrived early and discovered the regular start line was behind the fireworks safety fence, won the 3000m, ahead of Karen Harvey.
  • The usual 5,000-meter race was actually 4,770 meters, as the cone was dropped 230 meters too far east.
  • On the second loop, Jay Jacob Wind grabbed the turnaround cone and moved it 460 meters west, to make up for the shortfall to be an actual 10K (4,770m x 2 = 9,540m + 460m = 10,000m). After turning around there, he informed Dianna Carr and Nicholas Carr as they approached the 3,000-meter mark, but they turned at the old "5,000-meter" mark and thus ran only 9,540 meters.
  • Results compiled by Jay Jacob Wind. Send additions or corrections.
