Y.M.C.A. 5 MILER RAISES FUNDS FOR YOUTH PROGRAMS By TIM BAMFORTH

The oldest race for the Seashore Striders was held last weekend through beautiful North Shores and Henlopen Acres as the Ymca 5 Miler attracted a field of 182 runners and a handful of walkers.

"This was not our largest field ever, however it was the best turnout we have had in the past five years", said head timer Bob Porter.

The event, in it's ?? year, raises money for the Y.M.C.A. Youth Programs and was founded years ago led by Bruce Springer of Timeout Sports and Jay Stein of Stuart Kingston.

Rehoboth Beach Patrol's Kevin Danahy, qualifier of the Ironman Triathlon in Kona, Hawaii in October, captured the Overall Male Title in a respectable time of 27:03, while Claire O'Brien finished 33rd to win the Overall Female Title in 33:03.

"I did a 100 miler on the bike last week and I was not fully recovered during the weekend", said Danahy, who left Wednesday for The Lifeguard Nationals in San Diego where he will compete in the 2-mile soft sand event.

Master specialist, Paul Dawson, won the Master Male Title in 29:29, while Shelley Ralston won the Master Female Title in a tough time of 35:00.
